The location of the Tuckahoe Volunteer Day scheduled for Saturday, August 20, is now set for the Bellemeade Outdoor Learning Center in the city. Located adjacent to Oak Grove – Bellemeade Elementary School (where Tuckahoe members have long volunteered in the classroom), the 7 ½-acre site offers both outdoor education and self-directed play to the children and families of the community.
Described as a “hidden gem,” the Bellemeade Outdoor Learning Center offers opportunities for children to connect with the natural world through creative play, exploration, and bonding both within their own families and with the wider community. Whether playing in streams and woodlands, pulling weeds in the community garden, walking or biking on trails, or just taking in the wonders of nature, children develop their learning and building skills in a beautiful and safe outdoor environment.
On August 20 Tuckahoe adults and children 5 and over can play a part in upgrading and maintaining the center and perhaps interacting with some of the children who frequent it. There will be something for everyone to do. If you (and, hopefully, your family) can join us, sign up below by August 14. Indicate the number of children (ages 5-12) and adults (13 and up) who can participate. We will plan to meet at Tuckahoe @ 8:30am to carpool.
If you have questions, contact Pat Miller of the Outreach Committee @ 804-380-6688.
