The Choir also occasionally sings for special concerts and programs outside of the Church. A diverse repertoire of many styles of music from classical to contemporary is maintained. Our group’s age ranges from high school through adult. As a close knit group; we have a sharing and prayer time at the end of each rehearsal. No musical experience is required to participate- just a love for singing and worship! Come join us!

SUMMARY:Women’s Study Group
DESCRIPTION:The 2024-2025 Women’s Study Group \nW.S.G. meets from the first Monday in October to the first Monday in June. Our usual meeting place is Ruth Anna Langdon’s home at 7 pm where we enjoy a brief social time followed by the lesson. We end by 8:30 pm. For the month of October we will meet at 7 pm. For the winter months of November through February we will meet at 3 pm. From March through June we will move back to meeting at 7 pm. \nThis year our study will turn to The Difficult Words of Jesus by Dr. Amy-Jill Levine. \nJesus gave his disciples parables\, teachings\, and blessings that continue to inspire and guide us. Yet he also spoke words that many find challenging—even unsettling. He told disciples to “hate” their families (Luke 14:26)\, to become like slaves (Matthew 20:27)\, and to sell all their possessions and give to the poor (Luke 18:22). He spoke of exclusion and judgment (Matthew 8:12)\, restricted his mission (Matthew 10:6)\, and even used harsh language (John 8:44). \nIn this study\, Dr. Levine helps us hear these difficult teachings as Jesus’ first followers might have heard them\, trace how they have been understood over the centuries\, and wrestle with how we might interpret them today in light of the Gospel’s larger message of love and reconciliation.\nAll are welcome as we read\, listen\, and discuss together—seeking wisdom\, challenge\, and grace in the words of Jesus.\nIf you’d like to participate\, please sign up to indicate whether you will purchase the book yourself (available on Amazon and other websites) or if you would like the church to order it for you at an approximate cost of $14. A group order will be placed for those who sign up by September 19\, and books will be distributed at the first meeting on October 6. \nQuestions? DESCRIPTION:BOARD OF DEACONS\nThe Board of Deacons for the church is comprised of Deacons who are elected to serve for two-year terms\, with a maximum of six consecutive years. \nDeacon: Ministry of Compassion and Service*\nThe ministry of a deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of compassion\, witness\, and service\, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor\, the hungry\, the sick\, the lost\, the friendless\, the oppressed\, those burdened by unjust policies or structures\, or anyone in distress. Persons of spiritual character\, honest repute\, exemplary lives\, brotherly and sisterly love\, sincere compassion\, and sound judgment should be chosen for this ministry. \nCare/Share Groups:\nDeacons are each assigned a group of members as their Care/Share group. The deacons stay in touch with these families\, passing along news and reaching out to them to check in\, particularly when those members are ill or bereaved or have other needs.   The church family binds together in times of joy and sorrow. SUMMARY:Sessions' Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church Leadership includes the Session and Board of Deacons.\n  \nSESSION\nThe Session is the governing body for the church and is comprised of Ruling Elders who are elected to serve for three-year terms with a maximum of six consecutive years. \nRuling Elder: The Ministry of Discernment*\nAs there were in Old Testament times elders for the government of the people\, so the New Testament church provided persons with particular gifts to share in discernment of God’s Spirit and governance of God’s people. Accordingly\, congregations should elect persons of wisdom and maturity of faith\, having demonstrated skills in leadership and being compassionate in spirit. \nRuling elders are so named not because they “lord it over” the congregation (Matt. 20:25)\, but because they are chosen by the congregation to discern and measure its fidelity to the Word of God\, and to strengthen and nurture its faith and life. Ruling elders\, together with Ministers of Word and Sacrament\, exercise leadership\, government\, spiritual discernment\, and discipline and have responsibilities for the life of a congregation as well as the whole church\, including ecumenical relationships. \nWhen elected by the congregation\, they shall serve faithfully as members of the session.
